his pple are probably going thru proposals now.

China's Cashless payment had grown out of private enterprise drive, not a gov initiative.
That shows how enterprising the Chinese are when comes to finding solutions that meet their needs without wasting time and resources reinventing the wheel. QR payment started out around 5 years ago by Alibaba and yet China is able to rapidly adopt an *old* technology that was invented by the Japanese in 1990s.

So moral of the story is it isn't technology alone, but rather a society's ability to accept, learn, explore and harness existing technologies without gov having to force their hands. Now SG gov finally woke up and decided to be a "Smart" Nation only recently.

Why has Singapore fallen behind so quickly ?
This is the same question Loong commented during this year NDP rally...

Did we wasted time on biotech, finance, gaming, casino, F1 and tourism industries ?
No...it is just that SGreans have allowed complacency to overtake...

National Day Rally 2017: When Lim Swee Say felt 'suaku' in smart city Shanghai
"So when visitors from China find that they have to use cash here, they ask: how can Singapore be so backward?" he said.

Singapore progress has been hindered by red tape, not that we don’t have the ideal & talent.

IMO, those days it seems like only NETS is certified & approved for cashless transaction. MAS worry a lot on security breach therefore no other private or individual are allow to offer cashless transaction.

Every time when I uses NETS or Credit card, I felt very ashame of our system, why? It’s because the NETS/CreditCard terminal is still using copper telephone line MODEM technology to make comm connection with the server!!! It takes 10-30 secs for each transaction!!! Very f*ucking slow!!!!

But it isn’t too late, we can learn from other mistake and learn from it.
