Guan Eng: Let’s give Singapore some competition

CYBERJAYA: Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng told a group of entrepreneurs that it is time that Malaysia gave some healthy economic competition to Singapore.

“We must have the can do spirit. For example, why must we lose to Singapore every time? Beat them at their own game, you can do it. Penang has beaten them many times,” he told a group of entrepreneurs here at the Malaysian Global Innovation & Creativity Centre’s (MaGIC) Global Accelerator Programme (GAP).

“I’m not being anti-Singapore here but I’m just trying to motivate you that you can do it! After all if you look at Singapore, they use many of our people (talents),” Lim added.

He noted that the Singaporeans are really good in marketing noting they have laid bold claims to being the originator of several delicacies that were common to both Singapore and Malaysia.

“Chicken rice is theirs?... if you’re not careful fried kuay teow will also be theirs (someday),” Lim said to laughter from the audience.

How Jack Ma overcame his greatest failures to become the richest man in China
https://yourstory.com/2017/05/jack-ma-success-story-2/

I got my story, my dream, from America. The hero I had is Forrest Gump...I like that guy. I've been watching that movie about 10 times. Every time I get frustrated, I watch the movie. I watched the movie before I came here again to New York. I watched the movie again telling me that no matter whatever changed, you are you.”

Jack Ma – The Inspirational Story of Alibaba Founder
https://www.shoutmeloud.com/jack-ma-alib...under.html

After finally coming to terms with all of his rejections and failures, Jack Ma visited US in 1995, for a Government undertaking project related to the building of highways. It was then that Jack Ma was first introduced to the Internet and Computers. Computers were pretty rare in China then, given the high costs associated with them and Internet or E-mails were non-existent. The first word he searched on the Mosaic browser was ‘Beer’, and it popped out results from different countries, but signs of China anywhere. He then searched ‘China’ and not a single result popped out! He decided it was time for China and its people to get on the Internet.

Jack Ma: Success Story

Following the Chinapage fiasco, Ma took up a government job, working for a short period at the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation in the latter half of the 1990s. It was in this role that Ma encountered Jerry Yang, a co-founder of Yahoo. The two became friends, and Jerry would eventually secure a Yahoo investment of roughly $1 billion in Alibaba in 2005.

Thanks to his experience in the government and his failed partnership surrounding Chinapage, Ma developed a general distaste for governmental bureaucracy. Later, in speaking of this period in his life, Ma cautioned young entrepreneurs to "be in love with the governments, but do not marry them.” Nonetheless, Ma’s experience would prove valuable to Alibaba later on. When government officials approached Alibaba for help solving a crashing ticket vending system, Ma and his team offered to help fix the problem free of charge. In exchange, government agencies tended to leave them alone.

Malaysia remains committed to fair trade: Guan Eng

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia will remain committed to fair trade, freedom of information and the rule of law (with mutual benefits) including respecting intellectual property rights that forms part of the Multimedia Super Corridor (MSC).

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng said it was only through the aforementioned values that the government can ensure a stable environment for trade and e-commerce to thrive.

“We are building on the foundation Tun Dr Mahathir laid down by enhancing the existing International Integrated Logistics Services (IILS) to cater for digital trade facilitation.

“The Digital IILS status will allow relevant internet-based entities to provide door-to-door logistics services in Malaysia, creating an integrated online-to-offline regulatory framework to encourage e-commerce,” he told reporters after launching the Alibaba Group’s national office, here, today.
