A blog entry by Kenneth Jeyaretnam that is worth a few minutes of your time reading. In it he said Temasek should have forced a restructuring of the company by buying Olam's debts for peanuts and just wipe out existing shareholders. That will be doing us, Spore citizens, a favour.
"The rational strategy would have been to buy the debt of Olam at a big discount to face value and then take control of the company by forcing a restructuring, wiping out the equity holders in the process. To make an irrationally generous offer for a failing company with public money is rewarding foreign shareholders at the cost of the Singaporean taxpayer and CPF holder. Temasek has a case to answer here and questions need to be asked."
