A Myanmar pilot flying skill saved the day after his aircraft's landing gear failed, forcing the jet into an emergency landing with no front wheels on Sunday morning, an official said.

The nail biting touchdown -- in which nobody was injured -- was the 2nd instance of a malfunctioning flight in less than a week within the country.

The Myanmar Airlines flight UB-103 -- an Embraer-190 model -- was grounded @around 9 am in Mandalay (0230 GMT), a city popular among foreign tourists, with all 89 people on board including seven crew members, safe.

No survivors when plane went down on Friday night near the perimeter of Dillingham Airfield, said Honolulu Fire Chief Manuel Neves.

"Upon arrival, we saw the plane fully engulfed in fire," he said. "The first crews on scene extinguished the fire."

Some family members of those on board were at the airport waiting for the plane to return when the crash occurred.

"In my 40 years as a firefighter here in Hawaii, this is the most tragic aircraft incident that we've had.
