ExxonMobil commits to multi-billion-dollar expansion of Singapore manufacturing complex

2 April 2019: Minister for Trade and Industry Chan Chun Sing said that he was happy and proud that the Economic Development Board, JTC Corporation and economic agencies have secured multi billion $ investment from Exxon Mobil.

Energy giant ExxonMobil is undertaking a multi-billion-dollar expansion of its Jurong Island integrated manufacturing complex, it announced on Tuesday (April 2).

The expanded facilities will enable the company to convert fuel oil and other crude products into higher-value lube base stocks and distillates.



18 Sept 2020: Exxonmobil located at Jurong Island, Singapore, the cracker has an ethylene production capacity of ... 1 million mt/year and a propylene production capacity of 450,000 mt/year.

As MRC reported earlier, in June, 2019, ExxonMobil said that it had completed an expansion at its Singapore refinery to upgrade its production of EHC Group II base stocks, strengthening the global supply of high-quality base stocks and enhancing the integrated facility’s competitiveness.

Note: Ethylene cracker is toxic and is confirmed causing cancer.

its unfair for our govt to continuously benefiting only ripping the rewards while endangering the lives of nearby west coast residents and leaving it to taxpayers to carry the high costs of medical expenses .

Its not only Pasir Gudang oil refinery in Johor, Singapore 2 oil refineries; Exxon Mobil in Jurong island and Shell oil refinery in Pulau Bukom are as dangerous.

Medical and environmental concerns intersect in a new study that found that Texans who live within 30 miles of an oil refinery—more than 6 million people— have higher rates of cancer. The risk appears to correlate with proximity.
For example, Texans who live within 10 miles of a refinery are at higher risk than those who live within 20 miles of a refinery, who in turn are at higher risk than those who live within 30 miles of a refinery.

Lung cancer, as the leading cause of cancer mortality worldwide, has been linked to environmental factors, such as air pollution.
Residential exposure to petrochemicals is considered a possible cause of lung cancer for the nearby population.
