These scholanships to FTrs can be used to lower the school fees for locals in the Uni and Poly. Now the school fees paid by locals without “subsidy” is the highest on earth comparing the same course in other Universities.

To favour FTr so that citizens can be discriminated again.

Since when Australia, USA or UK ever give citizens tuition subsidy to foreigners??

The first batch came in the early 2000s with their peidu mamas. The smart ones were offered scholarships and bursaries and pr. Once they finished ns, they brought their parents over. Many of these children are in their late twenties and early thirties now and Sg citizens already.

They speak English like us as they have been through the same education system halfway through primary school, secondary school, JC or poly, and Uni. Unless they lapse into their native dialects or mandarin, we wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.

They could be the policy makers of sg tomorrow and favour China nailbite

Spore is on economy and demo graphic decline,
we can no longer support huge unpaid students,
Cut by half is not enough, need to cut another half.

Our hyped education system is not world class.
Despite rank highly, we see scandals after scandals.

The policy itself is rather hideous cause there is a population agenda and also some other agenda which cannot be discussed openly.

Guess MOE has to also be more open of what that amount means. They didn't states out of the sum, actual money is go for the school fees, their transport and most important, the BUDGET used by MOE travels to these countries to get these "scholar".

There was once told some school OMs has to travel frequently to get scholars. And these Operation managers hardly teach in school thought they are suppose to be school teacher. Hope they can verify

Didn't pap gov discourage locals from pursing degree some time back ? I think this is an insult to the youngsters at large, implying that they are not smart enough and would rather give uni places to foreigners deemed smarter; with scholarships thrown in.

Just on this, decide whether your gov really meant what they say... "with you and for you". Do the right thing next election.

What an irony, to give uni places with tuition fees thrown in, while our young students are deprived on a uni education, and their parents need to fork out tens of thousands of dollars in other countries.

The Ministry of Education (MOE) spends about S$238 million a year on scholarships and tuition grants for international students studying in Singapore, Education Minister Ong Ye Kung revealed in Parliament on Monday (Aug 5).

Mr Ong also said that foreign students are admitted into institutes of higher learning on more stringent requirements only after “all Singaporean students who meet the standards have been admitted”.
