The reason why Aljunied and Sengkang is lost cannot be just attributed to the 39% Singaporean who support the opposition. There must be a substantial shift of middle ground in those constituency to make that happen.

That said, I prefer not to use oppies or pappies etc to describe people according to their political affilation. We are all Singaporean and if we cannot even agree to disagree and treat each other with respect, regardless of our political affiliation, this country have only one future, downfall.
The term "oppies" was coined by a netizen who went by the moniker "smickno" in the now defunct A1 Forum. Since then, oppies decided to retaliate by calling PAP supporters "pappies", and this term was used by the man who contested in the recent GE under the Reform Party banner, the one who said 成何体统。 Do you know who he was? I'd give you a clue. His initials are CY. Happy

Does that matters. Everyone is in control of how he wanted to act and behave.

If people don't like PAP then, how can a one party PAP rules Singapore for over 50 years?

They are virtually rated the smartest people and ranked the most highest paid politicians in the world.

As the party, PAP does not have mediocre.

Why is there a desire to have opposition voice in the parliament now? Is it really just a desire or is that an outcome from the current leader’s governing direction

There always has been a desire for opposition voice since our 1st GE after independence. However opposition cadidates then had not been successful due to their quality. The quality of oppies candidates of today and yester-years are world apart. Yesteryears we have Tom, d-ck and Harry kind of opposition candidates opposing for the sake of opposition. Today's oppies are highly educated.

Then why not the highly educated join PAP instead of the alternative parties like in the 80s or 90s. Or is this the outcome of policy direction that PAP has taken since Mr Goh Chok Tong’s and later Mr Lee Hsien Loong’s tenure.
